if a picture paints a thousand words…

then how many words can i paint with these pictures?

Been very busy since Friday attending the documentation workshop, the creative house seminar & the CYD fellowship at Bosay on Saturday, going to the CFC anniversary to apply my documentation skills at Oikos Booth on Sunday, Tagaytay roadtrip on Monday with Rainier, and Tanay ocular yesterday and attending a Lighting seminar at the evening… well, bahala na kayo manghula kung kelan lahat yan at saan.

Are you kidding me, God?…

I was just ranting about “burn-out” weeks ago and I wanted myself to focus on other things like my new hobby and try to lessen my service. But our God is a funny God. One who can deliver a real punchline.

Anyway, a week ago, Michelle texted me about a workshop for photography and videography available at our CFC center on Friday (June 22, 2007) from 2-5pm. I said “Wow! This is great because I’ll be able to learn more on my new hobby”. So I signed up and confirmed my attendance for that workshop. Came Friday, Marianne (from CFC) reminded me about the documentation workshop I’m attending. I said to myself “Documentation workshop? Wasn’t I attending a workshop about photography or videography only? ” so i just didn’t mind it, maybe its the same.

When I entered the room, I greeted the people inside and looked for Josh (thought she was a guy) but instead met Donnie from North, Viel and Channot from Laguna. They looked very well-acquainted with each other already (baka late lang ako sobra kaya nagkakilala na sila mabuti). But Josh wasn’t around yet so my hypothesis flew quickly out of the window. Donnie interviewed me about Photography stuffs and how well have I been in this field (Ahh, ala pang isang buwan hehe..). I told him I was just new in this field and was going for lessons on July. He then asked me if I’m planning to volunteer after this. I said, yeah maybe in my sector (Sa loob loob ko, kasi ayoko magdagdag ng service sa SCOM sa center).

“Have you heard about Oikos?” Donnie asked. *hint #1*
I said “Yeah!” explaining that its one of our Soc. Min. dealing with our environment.

“Okay, kasi naghahanap kami ng team sa center katulong ni Josh kasi konti lang tao ng Oikos eh. *hint #2* ” Donnie followed.

And I just grinned.

Then someone came in. A man with tarps made for Oikos. Someone texted me, saying “Hi nick, this is Josh from Oikos, where are you?” *hint #3 & 4*

* Horror background music and loud heartbeat drumming sound playing.

What the? Did I enter the wrong room? No! this must be the right room. Someone brought a Tripod and a video camera. I saw a man with DSLR downstairs playing around with his camera. This can’t be.

Then Josh entered the room. The HE that I thought, was all along a SHE. What’s happening to my world?

* Glass shattering sound.

I felt I was victimized in a multi-level marketing scam invitation. I thought of running away from the room but I didn’t. I had to hear this. So I listened about what the workshop is all about and fortunately, it was still about documentation using Photography and videography.

Surprisingly, I learned a lot of stuffs from the workshop which I can use in the future and still use on my photo skills. I learned how to frame subjects and angles on doing interviews, ethics and other stuffs about Oikos. But mostly, I could use this on Sunday (yesterday) where we were asked to document the event in Oikos booth during our CFC anniversary and practice our newly learned ideas.

Told you God could deliver funny jokes sometimes.

On being a professional photographer

Many have already said this, that once you decide to buy an SLR camera, that would just be the start of your very expensive hobby/career. As of now, I just own a kit lens of 15-55mm f3.5-5.6. I’ve been enjoying it so much especially in outings or gatherings but at some times, I wish I had a faster lens/a longer lens/or a sharper lens.

In the end, I’m now considering buying lenses as investments for my future dream. Maybe a famous wedding photographer, food art or maybe portraiture photo artist. Whatever, as long as I can get the opportunity to capture the beauty or the moment of that scene and probably earn a bit or a lump from them.

So bear with me If I’ve been blogging about my camera for almost a month now. I just want to write about my wishlist/goals and dreams about being a photographer.

1. To be a Great photographer by year 2008

2. To have these lenses by the end of 2008
Nikkor 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 VR (P38,000)

Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR (P78,000)

Nikkor 50mm f1.8 (P6,000)

Nikkor 28-70mm f2.8 (P65,000)

3. To win a lotto worth P1 Million or more (haha what a goal)

4. To enroll or attend workshops offered about photography and improve my skills and knowledge.

5. Get the additional funds to be able to pay for all of these.

So I would just like to announce that I’ll be putting up a big can outside our gate and will be bringing it every gathering I attend to and Please feel free to drop any amount of money you wish to donate for a good cause. My cause. =)  I will soon be opening a bank account for people who don’t have the time to meet me and drop their donations personally. =)
